Alan Kelly likely to target Labour deputy leader post

He is to make a statement on the plinth outside Leinster House at 10.30.

Having confirmed his interest in contesting the leadership battle on Tipp FM earlier this week the Public Transport Minister is likely to focus his challenge on the post of deputy leader.

His Junior Ministerial colleague Alex White is also expected to enter the race at some point while Joan Burton confirmed her challenge yesterday.

Brendan Howlin has ruled himself out of the contest.
