A new report show over a quarter of farmers aren’t taking basic safety precautions, according to a new study.

The study compiled by the ESRI on behalf of the Health and Safety Authority shows 26 per cent of farmers don’t wear standard safety gear like high-vis vests or ear defenders while working.

27 per cent take risks by going ahead with risk jobs on the farm, rather than calling in help from others.

Chief executive of the HSA Mark O’Halloran says many farmers are aware of safety protocols but don’t follow them on their own farms.
