A Tipperary TD is calling on the Minister for Agriculture to do more to ensure Ireland export enough calves this year to sustain the sector.
While Minister Creed has announced a replacement boat for one that had been discontinued – it’s capacity is much lower.
The old ship had 20 berths for lorries but the replacement only has 12 – however, Fianna Fáil’s Jackie Cahill has said with minor modifications the number could be increased to 24.
With beef prices falling, he’s calling on the Minister to do more.
