Agreement reached by former patients of Dr Michael Shine

Former patients of the struck-off consultant Michael Shine have reached an out-of-court settlement with the religious order than ran Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda, Co. Louth.

The Irish Independent reports that over 100 former patients who claimed they were abused by the former medic agreed on a settlement of some 8 million euro.

Dignity for Patients – which has supported former patients of Ardfinnan native Dr Shine – has welcomed the settlement.
