He admitted obtaining an €8.2m loan from Anglo to pay off a personal loan with Bank of Ireland and protect his shares in Anglo from being sold.

Mr. McAteer, who has an address at Greenrath in Tipperary, is already serving a three and a half year sentence for his part in a conspiracy to defraud.

Today, Judge Martin Nolan said it would be unjust to impose the new sentence on top of that so he ordered for it to run concurrently.
