A homecoming with a difference takes place in Tipperary later this week.

Like many other teams in Tipperary and across the country the Gortnahoe – Glengoole club has lost many players to emigration in recent years.

However a number of them have returned home for Christmas to take part in “Home to Hurl” on St Stephen's Day.

It will pit an international selection against a team of players who still live in the area with funds raised on the day going to Scoil Aonghusa in Cashel and North Tipperary Hospice.

Jim Ryan – who is now living in Perth in Australia – is one of those to return for the match. He says 19 players have arrived home for the game coming from places such as Hong Kong, the UK and Saudi Arabia.

The game on St Stephen's Day throw's in at 2 o'clock in the Gortnahoe GAA field.
