Last week Breifne O'Brien pleaded guilty to14 sample charges of multi-million euro theft and deception relating to a number of bogus deals.

The 52 year old businessman of  Kilmore, Monkstown Grove, South County Dublin, had denied all 45 charges he was facing, but changed his plea to guilty on the day his trial was due to start last Wednesday

The prosecution accepted the plea on the basis that the full facts surrounding the other offences would emerge at the sentencing.

The allegations of deceptions involve five people including Carrick on Suir Dairy Farmer Louis Dowley – his wife had known the 52 year old in Trinity College – it’s alleged O'Brien stole €4 million from the Tipperary man.

Judge Patricia Ryan adjourned the case until today where it’s expected a date for sentencing will be made. The prosecution has already stated it was a complex matter that could take a day and Judge Ryan indicated it would be held before the end of next month.
