5% of motorists in Ireland caught drink driving.

One in 20 motorists in Ireland has been caught drink driving over the past ten years.

The statistic covering fully-licenced drivers is contained in figures compiled by the Irish Independent.

An average of 51 point 5 motorists per 1000 people in the population have been caught, but that figure is far higher in some counties. The Tipperary figure is just below the national average at 51.5 per thousand.

According to the paper, the top rate is in Monaghan, while the lowest is in Roscommon.
