200,000 overseas visitors to Tipperary

200,000 overseas tourists came to Tipperary in 2016 according to data from Fáilte Ireland.

The latest official data on overseas travel from the CSO also showed an increase of 2.9% in overseas visits to Ireland for the first nine months of 2017 compared to the same period of 2016.

Local Fine Gael Cllr Michael Murphy says the retention of the 9% VAT rate for the tourism and hospitality sector is vital for tourism in the county.

He says he hopes the trend will be built on further this year.
