Fire crews remain at the scene tending to a serious blaze in Clonmel.

The alarm was raised at the old meat factory in Irishtown at 6pm yesterday evening.

Seven units of the Tipperary fire service responded to a serious fire on the Dungarvan road beside the Presentation school.

Units from the Clonmel, Carrick-on-Suir and Cahir fire brigades attended the scene.

Heavy smoke blanketed the region as locals were advised to remain indoors and roads were closed.

This morning, the road remains closed and the Clonmel unit is still at the scene tending to the blaze.
