It's eleven years today since the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States.

The nation is preparing to honour nearly 3-thousand people killed in the coordinated plane hijackings in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania on September 11th, 2001.

But this year, it's been decided that politicians won't speak at the main remembrance ceremonies, in a bid to remove politics from the commemoration of the victims.

Politicians will remain silent while the names of those who died are read out by relatives, in an effort to honour the victims in a way 'free of politics' during an election year.

Among the victims was Martin Coughlan from Cappawhite who was working in the Twin Towers at the time of the attack.
