nearly 9,000 homes and businesses across Tipperary are still without electricity and 7,000 have no water after Storm Éowyn.
17,000 lost electricity on Friday morning but almost 8,000 households have been reconnected as of this morning (Saturday)
However, ESB Networks are warning that it’s likely to be more than a week before everyone has lights and heat again.
The electricity issues have had a knock-on effect on water supply with Uisce Éireann confirming this evening that 30 water schemes have been affected in the Premier County with 7,000 left with no supply.
The power cuts are affecting local treatment plants as they did during the recent snow and ice event and the restoration of supply will be dependent in cases on the power situation.
Areas impacted currently include parts of the Nenagh scheme which supplies Coolbawn, Kilbarron and several small areas supplied by booster stations; Lorrha area; part of the Dundrum Scheme and Holyford and surrounding areas. Customers supplied by Ardfinnan Water Supply have also been impacted by a major burst water main, crews have been on site since early today and continue to work into this evening to restore supply as soon as possible.
Uisce Éireann says:
Alternative water supplies are available at the following locations:
- Ardfinnan Regional Scheme: Barne Lodge, Ardfinnan Village (near council depot), Grange School, Goatenbridge (beside GAA pitch), Marlfield Village, Clonmel and Cahir near NCT Centre
- Dundrum Scheme: Ponderosa Crossroads
- Hollyford Scheme: Holyford Scheme
Power was restored to a large number of other areas impacted by outages overnight, and water will continue to be restored to other areas throughout the evening and into tomorrow. Customers may experience lower pressure as a result. Customers can go to www.water.ie and enter their address for details of localised issues and estimated restoration times.
In the meantime, customers are urged to conserve water where possible in order to protect supply while the outages are being resolved.
