In September, the first 100 entered the Garda College, ending the 5 year ban on new recruits.

The students will undertake a two year Bachelor of Arts programme in Applied Policing and will be in the college for 9 months before going out to various Garda stations around the country to gain practical experience.

The Government had promised that 300 new recruits would be in Templemore by the end of this year; however, only 200 will have started their studies by the end of this month.

The new Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan has said she would like to see the 'trickle' of recruitment continue.
