A new Civil Registrar has started work in Thurles.

The position of Civil Registration Service Officer had been vacant in Thurles since early last year following a retirement.

It meant that residents of the Mid Tipp Town were forced to travel to Nenagh or other offices in the county if they needed Birth, Death and Marriage Certs and other services.

The new Civil Registration Service Officer started yesterday, and will work on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for now although it is understood had it could be ungraded to five days if there is sufficient demand.

The appointment has been welcomed by Tipperary TDs Alan Kelly and Michael Lowry.
