Gardaí in Cork say they’re anxious to speak to a man after a 24-year-old Tipperary man was killed in a stabbing in Mallow last night.
They’re trying to locate him after witnesses placed him at the scene during a fight in the town.
The 24-year-old victim was stabbed during an altercation at around 8.30pm on Bridge Street in Mallow.
He has been named locally as Conor Quinn who is believed to be from Kilshane near Tipp town but had been living in North Cork of late.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later – a post-mortem is taking place today.
The scene was preserved overnight for a technical examination and Gardaí are searching for a weapon.
Investigators have already spoken to a number of witnesses – but they particularly want to locate a young man who left the scene shortly after the altercation.
Local resident Bill Lehane – who lives near the scene – has been telling Cork’s 96fm & C103 news about his shock on hearing of the incident.
Officers say they’re aware of the background circumstances but are appealing to anyone with information to contact them
A motive for the violence isn’t yet clear but it’s reported Conor Quinn may have been involved in a row earlier in the day at Cahermee horse fair in Buttevant.
