Visiting restrictions have been put in place at South Tipp General Hospital.
It’s as a result of the flu virus on all wards and suspected cases of the winter vomiting bug.
A number of patients have been experiencing vomiting and diarrhoea at Tipperary’s main hospital.
While this hasn’t yet been confirmed as the Norovirus a decision has been taken to impose a ban on all visitors to South Tipp General in Clonmel.
Cases of the flu virus are also reported on most wards.
According to hospital management only people who are critically ill will be allowed visitors – all ward managers have supplied security staff with details of these patients.
There is also a complete ban in place on children visiting the hospital.
Meanwhile 24 patients are without a bed at South Tipp General today as overcrowding continues to be a significant problem at hospitals across the country today.
University Hospital Limerick – which serves North Tipp – is the busiest in the country with 52 patients being cared for on trolleys or chairs.
Nationally the INMO trolley watch figure stands at nearly 600.
