Tipperary’s Dean Gardiner won his opening bout at the AIBA World Championships in Hamburg last night.

The Clonmel super heavy weight had a convincing win over Korean Southpaw Hyeon Do Kim and now joins Joe Ward and Brendan Irvine in the last 16

Kim was on the floor and took a count in the first and the Clonmel BC man found the target with some superb head and body shots in the second and third rounds.

Sean McComb is the only Irishman in action today

He takes on Andy Cruz-Gomez of Cuba in their last 16 tie in the 64kg division.
