A Tipperary transplant recipient is completing a 180 kilometre walking challenge today.
It’s timed to coincide with World Kidney Day and the Rock of Cashel will be lit up purple to mark the occasion this evening.
Alison Fogarty McCarthy from Tipperary Town is travelling to Dublin today to complete her mileage and light a candle in honour of her donor at Beaumont Hospital before returning to Cashel.
The idea is to raise funds for the Irish Kidney Association.
Alison says she’ll finish the challenge this evening walking to the Rock to see it lit up in her honour;
“I’m heading to Beamount Hospital where I will light a candle in memory of my donor.
“We will come back then on the train to Limerick junction and make our way to the very first roundabout as your are coming in to Cashel Town.
“We’ll walk that small bye pass road down into Cashel Town, up to the Rock of Cashel where the OPW have granted me permission where they are going to switch on the lights, representing the colour purple for World Kidney Day.”
