They are among a number around the country who have been conned into buying iTunes gift cards.

Two people who fell victim to the scam in Tipperary and Wicklow were conned into buying over €1,000 worth of the vouchers.

Another victim in Galway was conned out of €2,200.

The scam involves people being told they owe money and in some cases they’re told they’re facing criminal charges.

They are then ordered to buy iTunes vouchers to pay off the debt.

Gardai are warning people not to trust anyone claiming to represent a company and to be suspicious of voicemails from people they don’t know.

They point out that no company will request payment via iTunes or any other online vouchers.

If you receive a call like this, end the call and contact Gardaí.
