The draws for the senior hurling championship quarter-finals will be made this evening.
The four group winners will be drawn against the four group runners up, with the games set to take place on the weekend of September 15th.
Nenagh Éire Óg will be in the hat for the quarter-final draw for the first time since 2020.
Speaking after their one-point defeat to Loughmore on Sunday, Nenagh coach Johnny Kelly is hoping they can drive on after a good performance:
“I think it was a really good game, end to end stuff, lots of real brave hurling on both sides.
“it was a good game and hopefully know it will give Nenagh the break that they need to go on and maybe the bit of luck that we’ve needed over the last number of weeks, we’ve had a lot of injuries and things like that so hopefully we’ll get a drive on now for the quarter-final.”
Nenagh can thank their fellow North side Lorrha as Ken Hogan’s side beat Holycross/Ballycahill which meant Nenagh finished second on score difference and Johnny Kelly was delighted that they were able to progress:
“It didn’t look likely coming down towards the end when Loughmore got that goal with three or four minutes to go.
“We realised we had to go back up the field and keep pressing anyway and fight until the bitter end but as it transpired Lorrha, my neighbours at home, did us a massive favour so we thank them but unfortunately for them, by us not getting a win or draw it knocked them out but that’s the way it goes.”
The draws for the relegation playoffs across the top three grades of the county hurling championship will also be made this evening.
Meanwhile in the premier intermediate hurling championship, the preliminary quarter-final will see West champions Cashel King Cormacs take on Boherlahan-Dualla on the weekend of September 8th.
A draw will also take place this evening for the prelim quarter-final in the intermediate championship where Mid champs Drom-Inch will be drawn against one of Cappawhite, Borrisokane or Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams.
