The annual Stonethrowers Rally – which has attracted thousands of motor sport enthusiasts to the county over the years – will not be going ahead.

Tipperary Motor Club – which organises the event – say going on entries for other rally’s in the last few months it would not be financially viable for them to go ahead.

Ray Heany is Deputy Clerk of the Course for the Stonethrowers.

The rally was due to be held on August 13th next with its headquarters in Clonmel.

It regularly attracted close to 150 crews each year.

Ray Heany says while they are determined to hold the rally in 2018 it is a blow for the local economy to have to cancel for this year.
