This year’s Tipperary International Peace Award is being given to the his Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar.
It’ll be presented to him in a ceremony at the Great National Ballykisteen Hotel, in Limerick Junction at 3pm.
A delegation of 25 people will accompany the Prime Minister including the UK Ambassador to Ireland.
Honourary Secretary of the Tipperary Peace Convention Martin Quinn explains why this decision was made:
“Qatar is widely acknowledged by the international community as a reliable and successful mediator and it’s reputation has been enhanced because of it’s role in challenging negotiations in different parts of the world.
“So for those reasons we have chosen the Prime Minister of Qatar and those that work with him for the Tipperary International Peace Award.”
