Fly-tippers won’t get away with it anymore, according to local Cllr Sean Ryan.
He is calling for covert surveillance to be set up a dumping blackspots around the county.
Changes to the legislation mean that hidden CCTV cameras can now be used to identify people who’re illegally dumping their rubbish.
Thurles Cllr Ryan says it means that litterers can finally be caught and punished:
”I was informed by the environmental section (of Tipperary County Council) that that would be looked at. That they have now got the statutory authority to do so.
”They’ve asked us to send in a list of areas where this dumping is occurring, where these black spots are occurring, and that this issue will be looked at.
”And I hope that that will seriously help the environmental enforcement officers who do such a good job on the ground to try and curtail this dumping. And it also will mean that if you’re willfully dumping … and it’s a very small minority of people … But if you’re doing that, you will be caught, you will be prosecuted, and you won’t get away with it.”
