The local authority hasn’t taken control of a derelict property under a compulsory purchase order in the last decade.
The details emerged during this month’s meeting of the Tipperary/Cashel District where councillors pushed for action on the high number of neglected buildings in West Tipp.
Meanwhile, at the Nenagh Municipal District meeting, calls were also made for the council to issue CPOs for derelict buildings.
Local communities and businesses have been working to improve their areas; however, work can be hampered by vacant properties falling into disrepair.
Nenagh Cllr Hughie McGrath has suggested the Council should take charge of these properties – and could work with the owners should they come forward.
The local authority says they face a number of challenges when it comes to dealing with the issue.
Locating the owners of the properties is being cited as one of the main problems – particularly with properties owned by NAMA or vulture funds.
