Tipperary County Councillors are meeting in Clonmel for the first time in 2018 today.

Today’s meeting, which is the second full meeting of the council this year, is set to be dominated mainly by issues surrounding animal cruelty.

Today’s meeting looks set to be dominated by two motions – both relating to recent cases of animal cruelty in the county.

Cllr Catherine Carey is calling for a horse warden to be appointed in the county – a sentiment backed by Cllr Pat English.

He’s also looking for reports from various agencies including the council, An Garda Siochana and the Department of Agriculture, on recent cases of abuse and cruelty to horses.

Meanwhile, councillors from the Nenagh Municipal district are calling for an impact assessment to be carried out with regards to the merging of North and South Tipp councils – as well as the closure of the old town councils.

Also up for discussion is the possibility of live streaming meetings on social media – in an effort to create more public awareness about the work of the Council.

The meeting gets underway at 11am.
