Hold-ups in processing planning applications are hurting economic growth in Tipperary.

That’s the charge being levelled at the local authority by councillors.

It’s also emerged that the number of application being rejected as invalid has risen to 30 percent after changes in how the planners are implementing legislation.

A number of members questioned the ability of the planning department to manage its workload at this weeks meeting of the County Council, including Fine Gael’s Michael Fitzgerald who’s held his seat since 1979.
