The new Cathaoirleach of the Cashel – Tipperary Municipal District says he recognises that the role is a huge responsibility as well as a great honour.
Fine Gael’s Michael Fitzgerald was proposed and seconded by party colleagues John Crosse and Mary Hanna Hourigan.
Cllr Fitzgerald was the only nomination and elected unanimously.
Outgoing Cathaoirleach Roger Kennedy told the council’s AGM that 12 million Euro had been spent in the area over the past year, and a lot had been achieved, but Cllr Fitzgerald admits there’s still a lot to do in the next 12 months.
Independent Councillor Denis Leahy says that tackling unemployment levels in the region and particularly in Tipperary Town needs to be the new Cathaoirleach’s first priority…
