Tipperary had the sunniest May on record in in the county last month with Met Éireann saying it was the sixth hottest May in the last 126 years.
Met Eireann says the station in Gurteen recorded 267.2 hours of sunshine breaking a record that had stood for nine years.
Shannon Airport in Clare had the highest with 288.9 hours breaking a 79 year-old record.
Met Eireann’s Climate Statement for the month says that provisionally average temperature of 12.54 degrees Celsius made it the sixth highest for May in 126 years of records.
In keeping with the trend of a consistent warming signal for May in Ireland, the top seven highest average May temperatures have occurred since 2008, with last year the highest with an average temperature of 13.08 Celsius.
Meanwhile, the EPA’s latest report says all areas of Irish society are at risk from climate change in the near future.
The Environmental Protection Agency has highlighted 115 areas of risk, and it’s classing 43 as significant, including public health, water security, transport and food production.
