The Rock of Cashel is being lit up tonight as a beacon to show family carers that they are not alone.
The local site is one of 20 iconic landmarks around the country that are being illuminated to mark European Carers Day.
People who provide unpaid and often round-the-clock care for loved ones, allowing them to live with dignity in their homes and communities are often overlooked and undervalued.
Family Carers Ireland Support Manager in Tipperary Richie Molloy says it’s very important that people know their is support out there for them:
”I’m very pleased that are very own, Rock of Cashel will be one of those iconic buildings to light up. And it’s all to do with letting the family carers see – across Tipperary and indeed the whole country – that you’re not alone.
”There is people behind you because anyone knows that if you’re caring for a loved one, especially the people that are doing it on a 24-7 basis, it can feel very lonely. And we’re always trying to stress that no one should have to care alone.”
