Local residents and families of loved ones buried at St Patrick’s Cemetery in Clonmel are planing to fight the decision to close off vehicular access to the location.

An online petition has been launched and a committee formed to oppose the move, which is due to come into force at the end of September once a new car park – with an entrance from St. Patrick’s Road – is provided beside the cemetery.

Locals who visit the cemetery are crying foul over the refurbishments, citing concerns over preventing access to those who have limited mobility.

Pat Landy’s son is buried in the cemetery, speaking on Tipp Today, he told Fran Curry the proposed plans for the cemetery amounted to discrimination.
