The call was made during a meeting between the Action for Animal Welfare group and a number of TDs and Senators in Leinster House.

It comes in the wake of the recent discovery of a dead horse near Newport which had its legs tied together.

Currently the government spends €155,000 per year on horse welfare in Tipperary.

Speaking on Tipp Today this morning, Ann Williamson of Action for Animal Welfare Ireland told Fran Curry of the necessity of acquiring a Horse Warden for the county.

A national protest has now been organised on the matter, set for the fourth of October, it will see buses ferrying protestors from all over Tipperary, and Ireland, for the event outside government buildings in Dublin.

Sinn Fein Cllr Catherine Carey also attended the meeting in Leinster House – the former Mayor of Clonmel reiterated her commitment to reining in animal cruelty and says they’re determined to continue their campaign until they get a result.
