Tipperary is set for a major boost as plans for a multi-million Euro redevelopment of the Cashel Palace Hotel have been approved.
100 jobs will be created in the construction phase while a similar amount will be employed when the hotel re-opens late in 2019.
The iconic Cashel Palace Hotel closed in 2014 – it was bought by Trevester Ltd late the following year.
The purchase was a joint venture between the Magnier Family and Chinese tycoon Teo Ah Khing.
Following a lengthy consultation process with locals in the town and the planning authority ambitious plans were submitted to Tipperary County Council in April of this year for the former Archbishops residence near the Rock of Cashel.
The green light was given for the project this week.
The proposals include extensions, alterations and refurbishment of the landmark building in the heart of Cashel.
60 bedrooms are planned along with 2 restaurants, a hotel bar, function room and leisure centre.
Also included will be a three-acre town park and the reinstatement of the famed Bishop’s Walk.
It’s hoped the hotel will be open for business once again in late 2019.
Local Councillor Tom Wood says it’ll be a huge boost to the local economy and in fact will benefit the entire county.
