Rachael Blackmore has been described as an extraordinary ambassador for horse racing.
The Killenaule jockey announced her retirement from racing yesterday, bringing the curtain down on a 16-year career.
The 35-year-old had 18 winners at the Cheltenham Festival including a Gold Cup win whilst also winning the Grand National among other remarkable achievements.
Speaking on last night’s Extra-Time, racing analyst David Byrne says Rachael’s legacy is cemented:
“What she has done in her career has been outstanding, 18 winners at Cheltenham, her association with Honeysuckle, two Champion Hurdles, winning a Gold Cup, winning a Grand National.
“She has put the sport of horse racing in a greater place from being involved over the last 16 years, her legacy is huge.
“It’s been an incredible journey what she has achieved and to go out the way she has gone out, she’s gone out the way she has wanted.
“She’s been an extraordinary ambassador for the sport of horse racing.”
