People taking to the waters of Lough Derg this Bank Holiday Weekend are being urged to exercise caution.

It’s traditionally a very busy time around the lake and our other inland waterways and coasts.

However people are being reminded that conditions can be unpredictable and a pleasant boat trip or sail can quickly turn into a dangerous situation.

It comes as Six people have been rescued after their 38 foot cruiser ran aground in Lough Derg.

The alarm was raised at around 7.20pm yesterday when the Valentia Coast Guard was requested to assist the boat.

The craft was located inside the Goat Road and all six passengers were brought ashore.

Eleanor Hooker of the RNLI in Dromineer has this advise for anyone who gets into difficulty.
