Local councillors have been reacting positively to the news that the Government have included Thurles Relief Road for funding under the National Development Plan.

It’s thought the project for Thurles will alleviate traffic congestion and allow for economic activity and growth in the town.

Along with the Jimmy Doyle ring road, a second inner route from Clongour to the Mill Road will be put in place.

Councillor Micheál Lowry says its good news for the area.

Meanwhile calls for funding for the re-alignment of the Latteragh bends seem to have been answered.

The stretch of the R498 has been mentioned in the Government’s National Planning Framework, which was announced on Friday afternoon.

It will see a complete realignment of a four-kilometre stretch at the Latteragh bends on the Thurles to Nenagh road.

Councillor Micheál Lowry says the funding should be now accessible for the project going forward.
