Puckouts will be key to Tipperary beating Waterford in tomorrow’s All-Ireland quarter-final.

That’s according to former Tipperary under-21 manager William Maher.

He says Waterford’s counter-attacking threat means Tipperary’s forwards must make the ball stick:

“I’m confident if Tipperary win their own puckouts, if Tipperary stop Waterford doing what they do as regards that huge athleticism on the counter-attack.

“So, when we’re attacking, we attack and we score or we foul but the ball goes dead in the forward area as opposed to Waterford turning the ball over and hitting on the counter-attack, which they are most dangerous at.

“I think that it’s up to our full-forward line, if the ball sticks in those positions when we deliver the ball, we will win the match.”

The Tipperary team for tomorrow’s game will be announced live on Tipp FM after the live Tipperary Clubs Draw at 8.30pm.

Speaking on Newstalk’s Off The Ball, nine time All-Ireland winner Tommy Walsh says Liam Sheedy has some decisions to make:

“I’ve heard recently that the young lads are absolutely flying it in A vs B games and in challenge matches against other counties.

“So, it’ll be interesting to see will Liam Sheedy bring in the young fellas and freshen up the thing or will he stick and keep with the guys that are 32 or 33.

“You see, they have repaid his faith in them before so, does he put faith in these guys again or does he try and freshen it up a little bit, play goes who are in better form, I don’t know.”

We’ll have live commentary of tomorrow’s game with thanks to Mulcahy Car Sales, Ardcroney, Nenagh and Sullivan Family Butchers, Brooklands, Nenagh.
