A Status Yellow Weather Warning comes into force for the Premier County from 6 this evening.

Tipperary County Council’s Severe Weather Team met yesterday to formulate plans for the week with another meeting scheduled for tomorrow.

Co-ordinator Ger Walsh says the local authority is fully prepared for whatever weather is thrown at the county.

With temperatures expected to be up to 10 degrees below normal, extra fuel payments will be available for elderly people and those in need to deal with the cold weather.

The arrival of the so-called ‘Beast from the East’ cold snap has sparked panic buying of basic food items like bread and milk.

Shelves were left empty in some shops yesterday.

These people in the Premier County have been giving Tipp FM their views

2,700 tonnes of salt is available to Tipperary County Council to treat roads which would be enough for a 5-day snow event.

The roads will be treated on a priority basis as Ger Walsh explained to Fran Curry on Tipp Today:

Met Éireann says the worst of the weather is likely to arrive on Thursday, as winds from storm Emma bring a blizzard.
