The announcement of a Covid-19 vaccine by Pfizer and German company Bio-N-Tech has been welcomed by Tipperary GP Pat Harrold.

They report the vaccine was more than 90 percent effective in trials.

The European Commission says it’ll soon sign a contract with the company for more than 300 million doses.

Speaking on Tipp Today Dr Harrold was positive about the news.

“I don’t think somebody the size of Pfizer would put it out there unless they were damn sure what they were doing.”

“They had a good look at this – they got 43,000 people. Quite often companies fall into a trap of doing tests with just white middle aged people. But this is all sorts of age groups so it should be pretty good data that they’re doing.”
