It would be an ‘outrageous gamble’ to bring Cathal Barrett back into the Tipp hurling panel, according to a former player.

Lorrha-man John McIntyre was responding to widespread criticism of Tipperary’s defensive lines last weekend, and calls for Barrett to be brought back in to the fold for the All Ireland semi final against Galway.

McIntyre thinks it’s unrealistic to expect a player to make it to the level necessary to positively impact the game, when he’s been out of inter county action for so long.

The former Galway hurling manager says it could also be bad for morale in the squad to bring Barrett back now…
