The plight of parents of children with Additional Needs has to be addressed in the Budget according to a Tipperary general election candidate.
West Tipp based independent John O’Heney – who has a background in teaching children with Additional Need – feels parents need more support.
He says they shouldn’t have to be consistently looking for resources to support their families.
“Many parents are often left looking for resources and support systems. This is putting huge burdens and huge stresses on their family environment. I just feel that the Government needs to be more proactive in supporting parents of children with additional needs. There needs to be more respite services for children here in Tipperary across the entire county. And I do feel that an increase in the carers support grants would be very welcome for certain families who are really struggling.”
