Obama’s return to Moneygall

Date:

The village of Moneygall came to standstill in May 2011 when Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama visited the ancestral home of the 44th President of the United States.

His great-great-great-grandfather Falmouth Kearney emigrated from Moneygall to New York in 1850.

While the village on the Tipp – Offaly border won’t be as busy today the Obama’s will be making an appearance – albeit in the shape of a bronze statue.

President Obama’s 8th cousin Henry Healy is Operations Manager at the Obama Plaza on the outskirts of Moneygall where the statues will be located.

There have long been hopes that President Obama and the Former First Lady would make a return visit to Ireland and in particular to his ancestral home.

While it won’t be today Henry Healy is hopeful that the presidents’ former speech writer Cody Keenan might have some news on when that might be.
