The new traffic system in Nenagh is working well according to a local businessman.

The introduction of the one-way system in the town centre had raised some concerns among both residents and the business community alike.

Since April drivers have been taking righthand turns around Emmet Place, Kickham St, Pearse St and Mitchell St. while the traffic flow on Silver St was reversed.

PRO of the Nenagh District Chamber of Commerce Denis Finnerty told Tipp Today earlier that overall it has been a success.

“We sort of retained our judgement on it until we saw it in action – a lot of people wrote it off before it started – but I think by and large it has been manageable and it has worked fairly well.

“We all worried about it at the start whether it would just be a ‘fly-around’ for Nenagh and people wouldn’t stop. But I think it’s working.

“There’s a few little caveats – I would love traffic to slow down a little bit. It seems to me that when traffic gets a chance to move it moves too rapidly.”
