Nenagh Needs its A&E questions use of CNU as UHL stepdown

A local campaign group is unconvinced at assurances that the Community Nursing Home in Nenagh will only be used as a step-down for UHL for one year.

A lease has been signed which means the new unit will not serve its original purpose which would have seen patients transfer from St Conlon’s.

Conor Reidy of the Nenagh Needs it’s A&E and Midwest Hospital Campaign Group told Tipp Today earlier that the cost of repurposing the unit makes him question if it will only be for 12 months as promised.

“It makes no economic, it makes no business sense – just from a purely business point of view it sounds like a dreadful idea and an absolute waste of money. Because remember when its repurposed from a brand new nursing home sitting there right now into a sub-acute step down facility – if they give it back after a year surely its going to have to be ‘re-repurposed’ back into a nursing home.”
