The new Carrigahorig Village Improvement scheme will be going ahead.
The plans hit a stumbling block last month after Cllrs raises concerns over sections of the design.
A vote to approve it had to be postponed while it was reviewed.
Issues including the placement of bus stops and speed signs as well as the removal of the white line down the centre of the road were were queried with Transport Infrastructure Ireland who are funding it.
They weren’t able to get the plans changed significantly but Cllr Michael O’Meara says it was more important that the project – which will see traffic calming measures, new footpaths and a new footbridge over Carrigahorig Stream – ultimately goes ahead:
“It’s quite an elaborate traffic calming scheme for Carrigahorig.
“This has been in the making for over 10 years, I as a councillor here have been working n this for years with the local community in Carrigahorig.
“It’s a very good day for the people of Carrigahorig and for the Lower Ormond area.
“It’s a hugely busy road and traffic safety has always been an issue in Carrigahorig so now once and for all it’s going be resolved.
“It’s very good for the village, it’s a multi-million euro project.”
