The Transport Minister is promising to look favourably on any application for funding to build a new pedestrian bridge in Ardfinnan.

Tipperary County Council is planning to permanently reduce the existing bridge in Ardfinnan to one lane of traffic with lights at either end to allow room for a wider pedestrian footpath.

There was huge opposition to the proposal at a public meeting last weekend and a protest will be held in Ardfinnan on Saturday.

Shane Ross heard the concerns of local councillors at a meeting with Mattie McGrath in Leinster House yesterday.

Cllr Martin Lonergan says Minister Ross – who visited the bridge to see the repair works last year – was supportive of the idea that a separate pedestrian bridge could be built if the original bridge was returned to two-way traffic.
