This weeks information session on plans to house families fleeing the war in Ukraine in Clonmel was effectively closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.
Deputy Mattie McGrath feels the event at the Talbot Hotel was merely a box-ticking exercise.
Officials from the Department of Integration and the Office of Public Works were available to take questions from the public.
However Deputy McGrath says this wasn’t a proper engagement.
“This is a box ticking exercise. I respect the officials are doing the best they can but this is after the fact. Trying to reassure people.
“And remember the meeting in the Borough Council which I didn’t get access to – I met them a couple of weeks after in Dublin and they promised that they would have a public engagement and I have been asking for that ever since on a weekly basis.
“So this is what it was – it was a ham-fisted approach. Get accommodation wherever we can, no planning and no proper assessment of needs.”
