Sharlene Mawdsley is happy with her first weekend back in competition.
The Newport AC sprinter was representing Ireland over the weekend at the European Team Athletics Championships in Slovenia.
It was Sharlene’s first time back in competitive action since the untimely passing of her father Thomas earlier in the month.
Mawdsley ran a season’s best on Saturday, finishing third in the women’s 400m event before helping the mixed 4x400m relay team to a fourth place finish on Sunday.
Speaking to Athletics Ireland after the relay event, the Tipperary woman says she was proud of the performance:
“The lactic I have in my legs right now is something I have never experienced before but I am proud of that leg and proud of the performance.
“I think I literally walked across the line, I don’t know what that was about, I think just an array of fatigue at this stage but I’m proud of that, it was a good weekend for me.”
