Philip Breen with an address at Lisduff, Gortnahoe appeared before today’s sitting of Cashel District Court.

The 40 year old faced a number of charges including careless driving causing death as well as matters relating to the hit and run and failing to produce insurance.

Judge Terence Finn remanded Mr Breen on bail to appear in court again in Cashel in March when the Book of Evidence is due to be served.

68 year old Michael Stapleton was just metres from his home at Paynestown when he was struck by a vehicle which fled the scene on the night of July 30th last year.

The pensioner was well known in the area and his death shocked the local community around Glengoole
