Major protest over death-trap road

A campaign to improve road safety levels on the Piltown/Fiddown N24 Bypass stepped up a gear today.

A local action group staged a slow moving vehicle and pedestrian protest on the route this afternoon to highlight their concerns.

Up to 100 people attended.

The bypass, which is on the main road from Carrick on Suir to Waterford, has been described as ‘death trap’ by locals with several fatalities in the past few years.

Father Paschal Moore, chairman of the action group’s committee, says the road is now known locally as ‘the road of death’
