Lowry plays down election talk

Tipperary Independent TD Michael Lowry says a snap election before Christmas is unlikely.

The Thurles TD says common sense is likely to prevail in today’s talks between Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Micheál Martin.

The government could collapse tomorrow if Fianna Fáil’s motion of no confidence in the Tánaiste goes ahead.

They’ve insisted Frances Fitzgerald resign after it became known that the Department of Justice was aware of tactics by Gardaí to smear the name of whistleblower Maurice McCabe.

However, Michael Lowry says there’s no appetite among the public for an election at this time.
